Parental/Guardian Involvement
Parent/guardian involvement is an important
component in a student’s success in school. The
Board encourages parents/guardians to become
involved in their child’s education to ensure the
child’s academic success and appropriate behavior.
The Superintendent, or superintendent’s designee,
will:
(1) Involve parents in the planning,
development, and evaluation of the Title I plan
through the Title I Advisory Committee’s annual
review, Title 1 achievement results, and annual
approval of the Title I plan for the following year.
(2) Provide a written plan for coordination,
technical assistance and other support necessary to
assist participating schools in implementation of
effective parent involvement activities to improve
student academic achievement and school performance
through the district Title I specialist. The Title I
Coordinator will work in collaboration with each
Title I building principal and staff through the
building site council.
(3) Encourage
open communication with parents and schools in order
to build a capacity for strong parental involvement.
(4) Coordinate parental involvement strategies
under Title I with other programs such as Head
Start, Reading First, etc.; these strategies will be
reviewed annually by the Superintendent or
superintendent’s designee.
(5) Invite parents to an annual evaluation of
the content and effectiveness of the parental
involvement policy. The evaluation will measure
improvements in parental involvement and identify
barriers to greater participation by parents in
Title I activities (with particular attention to
low-income parents, Limited English Proficient (LEP)
parents, minorities, parents with disabilities and
parents with low literacy). The administration will
use the findings to design strategies for more
effective parental involvement and to revise the
parental involvement practices as needed.
(6) Develop opportunities to involve parents in
Title I activities. Offer opportunities for parents
to visit their child’s classes and attend other
school-based meetings and events. The activities
will be coordinated through the administration
assigned to this area.
An annual assessment, in
consultation with parents, will be submitted to the
board evaluating the effectiveness of the parental
involvement program and to determine what action, if
any, needs to be taken to increase parental
participation. The Superintendent or
superintendent’s designee is responsible for
notifying parents of this policy annually or within
a reasonable time after it has been amended during
the school year.
