MISSISSIPPI MADNESS AT WILLIAMS INTERMEDIATE
CELEBRATES THE GRAND EXCURSION

Williams Intermediate is hosting a special “Mississippi Madness” community night on Monday, May 3rd from 5 to 7:30 p.m.  Tied in with the Grand Excursion, this event is designed to promote the Mississippi River, the railroads and the Quad City region in Iowa.  The event is free and open to all area students, families, neighborhood residents and other interested community members.

According to coordinator Sue Wolf, media specialist at Williams, students have been working on projects promoting the original 1854 Grand Excursion and other cultural aspects of the Mississippi Valley area for several months.  Activities of special interest include 3-D art of local Mississippi River bridges, a prairie grass display, teachers in period costumes and Mississippi Mud cake samples!  There will also be a picnic supper, book fair, hands-on science displays, musical performances, raffles, cross-curriculum display of Mississippi river animals and fish and much more.  Students and families from all schools across the district are especially encouraged to attend.
