DAVENPORT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS RECOGNIZES VOLUNTEERS

The Volunteer Office of the Davenport Community Schools is hosting a special reception on Tuesday, April 20, at 4 p.m. in the Holzworth Performing Arts Centre at North High School for the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time and energy in district schools every day.

Coordinated by Heather Blake, Americorps staff member, the event will feature a short program, presentation of certificates, refreshments and doorprizes.  Volunteers with the Davenport Schools literally come in all shapes and sizes – there are a number of senior volunteers who work as classroom helpers, parents who volunteer for special activities, business partners who provide time and resources, and students who get involved both one-on-one tutoring and other special events.  The district benefits from thousands of volunteer hours each year – often helping to make up the gap between decreasing budgets and increasing needs.
