‘HAIR-RAISING’ ASSEMBLY AT LINCOLN SCHOOL
CELEBRATES PROGRESS WITH ITBS
Lincoln School principal put
forth a challenge to his students earlier this
year: do their personal best on the Iowa Test of
Basic Skills tests in February and he would cut and
color his hair in some “funky new ‘do.” The results
of this challenge will be put forward at an assembly
at Lincoln this Friday at 8:30 a.m. and it looks
like a barber or hair stylist will be in order.
Students and staff at the
school worked hard to prepare for the different
sections of the ITBS test – focusing particularly on
reading and math. Perhaps more important than
raising actual scores, students were encouraged to
do their personal best. This meant coming to school
prepared, focusing during the question, taking time
to do a good job and participating in all ITBS-related
activities. The state of Iowa uses ITBS scores to
measure student progress in accordance to the No
Child Left Behind legislation.
In addition to a possible wild
new hair style for Mr. Womack, there will be music
from George Guy, a facilitator at Lincoln, and a
visit from “Data Man”, aka Bob Mata, the Director of
Equity and Assessment for the Davenport Schools. A
number of lucky students will also have their names
in a drawing to become Principal for a Day.
Fortunately for Mr. Womack, his
son Jacob Womack is a barber! It looks like his
Jacob’s styling skills will be needed.
