QC ELITE ROBOTICS TEAM PLACES 2ND AT REGIONAL
FINALS QC Elite returned to the Quad Cities
late on Saturday, March 12th after competing at the
St. Louis Regional (3/10-12). The local robotics
team initially placed 8th out of 44 teams and then
advanced to the finals where they eventually placed
second. The team includes students from within the
Davenport Community Schools district.
The team made it thru the quarter finals, semi
finals, and went on to the final round against teams
1625, 1444, 939. “We burned up one of our three
drive motors after getting tangled up with team 939
during the first match of the finals,” says Mark
Damewood, Team Leader, but managed to continue on to
the final match. Defeated in the final match, QC
Elite finished as a regional finalist (2nd place).
The competition essentially focuses around
programming and operating a robot that will complete
a pre-set group of tasks in sequence and within the
time allotted. The team also won the Daimler
Chrysler Team Spirit Award for their year round
efforts at recruitment, community service,
fundraising, and enthusiasm at the competition. “We
have a lot of work to do over the next couple of
weeks as we prepare to go to the Midwest Regional on
3/24 thru 3/26 in Chicago, notes Damewood. “I am
extremely proud of this team as we have all worked
very hard in our efforts to be successful,” he adds.
