Transfer Options

Guidelines

  • All completed transfer forms must be sent to the District Office, Attention Office of the Executive Directors.
  • Transportation will not be provided and is the responsibility of the parent.
  • There is no deadline for application.
  • In cases of approved transfer, the approved transfer will automatically roll over for the following year unless there is a change of address in which case the student will be expected to attend their home school.
  1. Incoming Kindergartners

All incoming kindergarteners are asked to attend kindergarten round up at their home attendance area school UNLESS:

    • They already have an older sibling in attendance at another elementary school outside their home attendance area and also wish to attend that school.  A transfer form must be completed and on file in the District’s Administrative Services Center.

All parents requesting a transfer for their incoming kindergarten student following kindergarten roundup need to complete a transfer option form.  Following fall registrations, transfers will be considered on a first come first served basis, that are within transfer guidelines until classes are full.  The transfer option form is available on-line, at all of our school buildings, and at the District’s Administrative Services Center at 1606 Brady Street.

  1. Elementary transfer requests

The following reasons will be considered –

    • Hardship -  must be accompanied by a letter explaining the hardship
    • Health –  must be accompanied by a letter from the doctor explaining the health issue
    • Child Care -  must have the back portion of the form completed and signed by the child care provider.  This is only appropriate at the elementary level.
    • Change of Residence -  referring to 5th graders who wish to complete an education level in the same attendance area after moving to a new attendance area
    • School adjustment – referring to a new building assignment made in collaboration with the parent, sending and receiving principals because of concerns, situations, or problems unique to the child whereby a transfer would be in the child’s best educational interest.

Following fall registrations, transfers will be considered on a first come first served basis, that are within transfer guidelines until classes are full.  The transfer option form is available on-line, at all of our school buildings, and at the District’s Administrative Services Center at 1606 Brady Street.

  1. Incoming 9th Graders

Incoming 9th grade students who wish to attend a high school outside of their home attendance area in the 2007-08 school year, need to complete a transfer option form by March 10th.  These forms are available on-line, at all of our school buildings, and at the district’s Administrative Services Center at 1606 Brady Street.  NOTE:  If you have already completed a transfer request.  You may return forms to either the sending school, receiving school or Marcene Johnson/Alison Loescher at the District’s Administrative Services Center at 1606 Brady Street.

  1. Chapter XI Individual Choice Option

Any student who becomes a victim of a violence, and a criminal charge has been filed, shall, to the extent feasible, be permitted to transfer to another school within the school district.   For purposes of this rule, a victim of violence is a student who is physically injured, sexually assaulted or threatened with physical injury as a result of the commission of a crime (as defined by Iowa law)  against the student while the student is in the school building or on the grounds of the attendance center.  Within ten calendar days following the date of the request, the school district will offer an opportunity to transfer to the parent of the student.  Contact the Office of Executive Director for appropriate form at 1606 Brady St., Davenport, IA 52803 or (563) 336-5090.
