MCKINLEY ELEMENTARY CELEBRATES PROJECT COMPLETION
Students, staff and families at McKinley Elementary
are looking forward to celebrating the completion of
a major renovation project at their school on
Tuesday, November 22, at 12 noon. The $1.9 million
project (paid for with Local Option Sales Tax
dollars) included a new centralized library/media
center, renovations to the office area and other
classrooms, as well as a heating system conversion
from steam to hot water. The architectural plans
were specifically designed to maintain the
historical tradition of the building, which opened
in 1939, while improving the use of space and
security issues. In a special ceremony and
“library shower” the previous evening, the new
library/media center will be named in honor of John
Schalk, former principal of McKinley for 25 years
and a dedicated teaching professional who touched
the lives of many Davenport students. This open
house is set from 5 to 7 p.m. All those who
participate are encouraged to “shower” the new
library with books. For more information, please
contact Amy Campanile, principal, at 324-0403.
