News Release - 11/5/07THIRD GRADE
STUDENTS RECEIVE FREE DICTIONARIES Due to the
generosity of the Davenport Elks and Does
organizations, every third grade student in the
Davenport Community Schools will be receiving a FREE
dictionary to support their efforts in reading and
literacy. According to Earl Oelerich with the
Davenport Elks, the organization is pleased to be
helping students again this year. All total, well
over 1000 dictionaries will be distributed during
the next few weeks. Deb Miller, principal at
Fillmore Elementary and recipient of dictionaries
last year is quick to praise the program. “It’s
wonderful that all of the elementary schools are
included in this program. Our district is committed
to literacy and the dictionaries are a great
resource for students” she says. “The students last
year were very pleased and used their dictionaries
frequently throughout the remainder of the year.”
Dictionaries will be presented either at assemblies
or directly in classrooms. The media is invited to
attend the distribution at Jefferson Elementary,
scheduled for this Thursday, November 8, at 10:30
a.m. in their school auditorium. Mr. Oelerich can be
reached at 285-4212 for additional comments.
