Rock Island Arsenal Parent University Open to Public

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The U.S. Army Garrison Rock Island Arsenal is sponsoring a free Parent University on Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. – noon on the Arsenal at the Arsenal Club, Building 60, first floor.  All Quad City parents, grandparents, childcare and educational professionals are invited to attend.                 . 

The following classes will be presented by local experts:

• Sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll, your teenager today - Rick Martenson, Psychology Health Group

• Sports and children - Jen Best, Iowa Extension Service

• Who’s in charge? - Jen Best, Iowa Extension Service

• Keeping kids fit and healthy - Diane Baker, Illinois Extension Service

• Tweenagers - Candy Reed, Davenport Community Schools, Mary Cashman and Jean Simpson, Mississippi Bend Area Education Association.

Registration is from 8:30-9:00 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be provided.  The classes begin at 9 a.m. Attendees will be able to attend their choice of three of the six sessions.

Drawings will be held for an overnight stay at a local inn and Mallards hockey tickets.

Directions: Attendees may enter the Arsenal by the Moline or Davenport Entrances. Everyone over 16 years of age must have current, valid photo identification, such as a driver’s license. Non-citizens must register one week ahead to AMSTA-RI-FPL@ria.army.mil. All vehicles are subject to search. Follow Rodman Avenue until you reach Gillespie Street. Turn north. Parking will be available in visitor spaces along the street and in the parking lot to the north of Building 60. Enter Building 60 under the red awning to the north.
