Announcements for 11-03-08

  • The Central Freshman and Sophomore Scholastic Bowl teams were in action this weekend at the Moline High School Invitational Tournament.  Considering our youth and inexperience, both teams did quite well in the competition.  Team A members were:  Mary Warhank, Madison Kludy, Cole Boudreau, Mary Reeves, Zach Behrendt, Blaine Herington, and Tyler Hurst.  Team B members were:  Hannah McAtee, Katie Corlett, Peter Elkin, Sienna Klauer, McKinley Kuhlmann, Jonathon Quist, Colin Iglehart, and Kaushay Colvin.  Thank you to all of you that participated, and congratulations for a job well done. 11-3
  • The Blue Devil Girls Swimming Team did an amazing job this past Saturday at the Regional Swim Meet. The girls placed fifth out of nine teams. Some of the top finishers were: Ellie Wilder, Liz Fritz, Katie Beale, and Mary Betsworth placing fourth in the 200 medley relay. Katie Beale, Ellie Wilder, Kathleen Gaertnier, and Mary Betsworth placing fifth in the 200 free relay. The 400 free relay team of Kathleen Gaertnier, Erin Abbas, Liz Abbas, and Anna Cox placed sixth. Mary Betsworth placed second in both the 100 and 200 free. Katie Beale placed fourth in the 100 fly and Ellie Wilder placed sixth in the 100 backstroke. Katie Beale and Mary Betsworth will be swimming this Saturday in Marshalltown at the State Girls Swim Meet. Way to go ladies! All swimmers need to turn in their gear this week after school on the pool deck. 11-3
  • Attention seniors—Baby ads are due today! Be sure to turn in forms, money and pictures into either the activities office or the yearbook room – Kemper 12 by the end of the day. After today ads will only be accepted with a ten dollar late fee and only for one more week. So get those baby ads into TODAY! 11-3
  • For any girl interested in playing off season volleyball there will be a meeting tonight, Monday, November 3rd at 6pm in Central's cafeteria to discuss USVBA. 11-3 Yearbook staff—don’t forget today’s mandatory Monday meeting. We will start promptly at 2:45 in Kemper 12. Be on time. We will be handing out assignments for the next signature and reviewing ad sales. See you then! 11-3
  • We will have a representative from University of Northern Iowa at 11:15 am, in the guidance office conference room today. Stop and get a pass if interested in visiting with them. 11-3
  • Newspaper 5th thru 7th block your mandatory meeting is today after school as there is no school Tuesday. All polished materials must be in the computer by Wednesday 4th block. 11-3
  • ALL Army JROTC Marksmanship Team members- please remember today after school in room 256 is your Marksmanship written test. Please be on time. 11-3
  • This weekend was the State Cross Country meet. Qualifying for this event from Central was Rebecca Wilder. She ran a great race against the best athletes in the state and placed 36th overall. Congratulations on a wonderful race and a great season Becca. Lady Cross Country Runners Coach Peiffer needs your clean uniforms dropped off to him @ Running Wild. They need to be turned in by Friday, November 7th. 11-3
  • Hey Key Club members - there is no school next Tuesday. Hooray for the election! Because of this, we will be meeting next Monday after school instead. Also, don't forget about Habitat for Humanity tomorrow if you signed up to help.  11-03
  • Indigo Ink has announced its November writing and art prompt.  Please be creative and send your submissions to room 501 or email newdevils@live.com.  Listen carefully to the following prompt: Francis Thomson once said:  "One could not pluck a flower without troubling a star."  Everything we do affects the world around us.  How have you troubled a star in your own life?  11-3
  • Attention Mike O'Hara, Kenton Creen, Dylan Thieman, & Sarah Painter: See Ms. Buening in room 305 for a crew schedule for Guys and Dolls if you have not done so already! 11-4
  • FREE BOWLING – All Central High School Students are invited to bowl for FREE this Friday at Bowlmor Lanes.  We are starting a NEW DC High School Bowling League.  If you may be interested, please come bowl for FREE this Friday and find out more.  Be at Bowlmor Lanes by 3:20 pm for a 3:30 Start.  You will be done by 5:30. 11-6
