Are you interested in seeing some of the best artwork in the Nation? Maybe enjoying a trip to Chicago with a friend? Well, you can do both if you act quickly. For a limited time Art Club is offering Central students an opportunity to go on this year’s S.O.F.A. Trip. We will be taking a charter bus to Chicago’s Navy Pier on Friday, Nov. 7th. There are only 20 seats left, so please talk with Mr. Balsar before next week, if interested, or if you would like to know more. 10-24
Please listen to the following changes for Scholastic Bowl practice next week. On Tuesday, October 28th, Frosh/Soph Team A will meet for practice at 7:00 a.m. The captain of team A is Mary Warhank. On her team are: Zach Behrendt, Cole Boudreau, Blaine Herington, Madison Kludy and Mary Reeves. If you just heard your name, you are practicing on Tuesday morning. Team B will practice on Thursday, October 30th in the morning at 7:00 a.m. Team B is being captained by Hannah McAtee. Her team members are: Kaushay Colvin, McKinley Kuhlmann, Peter Elkin, Siennna Klauer, Colin Iglehart, and Jonathan Quist. Again, Team B is practicing next Thursday morning. If you are confused by this announcement, see Mrs. Heninger for details. 10-27
All early graduates need to stop by the cafeteria and request their money out of their account. 10-24
Reminder to newspaper students- Your stringbook updated and organized through issue 3 with quarterly evaluation and analysis of work is due by exam day. Pick your book up now if you have left it in Kemper. You are responsible for your own mounting supplies. 10-24
Attention all B term PE students you need to stop by the activities office sometime this week to get you PE shirt. You will need your shirt on the first day of class. 10-24
Attention Students, Student Council will be collecting money during the sophomore and Varsity football games this Friday. Please bring your change and donate money to benefit our school’s fund for the Student Food Drive. Hope to see you there! 10-24
What’s Up Central High Boys to men/shades of success want you to know that they will be hosting a “Mix it Up” Poetry slam Wednesday Nov 19th right after school in the auditorium. “Mix it Up” is a Boys to men / Shades of success student initiative aimed at giving Central High school students & staff a chance to display there poetic ability on stage. Join us Wednesday Nov 19th immediately after school in the auditorium, and let your light shine!!! Sign up sheets will be in the main office, come one, come all.
Rules:
No profanity of any kind,
no booing or disrespecting other students,
2-3 minutes per act,
Have fun!

Please remember to bring in money and canned goods to your third block class. These will benefit our score in the Hunger Drive, and the third block class with the most pounds will receive a special prize. The competition starts on Monday Oct. 27. 10-24
Attention all A term PE students and Athletes your PE lockers need to be cleaned out by 11:00, Friday, October 24th. Anything left in the lockers after that time will be thrown out. Any girl who is keeping their locker B term because you are in a sport you need to see Mrs. Hansen by 11:00, Friday, October 24th, to reserve your locker, or your things will be thrown out. 10-24
Hey Blue Devils sign up for intramural badminton. See Mr. Swetalla or Mrs. Hansen in the gym if you want to play. The games will be played next Monday Oct. 27th and Wednesday Oct. 29th at 7:00 in the morning in the new gym. 10-24
Do you have an old phone or ipod? The Environmental Club is collecting old ipods, digital cameras, cell phones, ink cartridges and laptops! If you have something that you no longer use, drop if off at the main desk of the library! If you have questions, see Rebecca Briesmoore from the Environmental Club. 10-27
The Central Book Club is meeting to discuss A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah on Monday, October 27th after school in room 501. If you can join us to talk about this gripping story about a child soldier, we welcome you. Members of the book club are going to see Ishmael Beah speak at the University of Iowa on Wednesday night, so if you have not yet returned your permission slip, see Mrs. Heninger. 10-27
A reminder to students that on Wednesday, Oct. 29, Central Idol will take place in the gym. Please bring a dollar to your fourth block on that day to become an audience member for this exciting show. Who has what it takes to become this year’s Central Idol? It’s up to you to decide; voting will take place following the show. 10-27
Seniors you only have one more week to get your Senior Baby Ads in to the yearbook. Ads are due Monday, Nov. 3rd. Remind your parents and get those cute pictures rounded up. If you have lost your forms they are available in the activities office or in Kemper room 12. After Nov. 3rd there is a $10.00 late fee and they will only be accepted for one additional week with the fee. Don’t delay remind your parents today! Baby ads, Baby ads, baby ads! 10/28
Attention Juniors and Seniors:
There will not be open campus or commons for the next few weeks while we await the chance to look at grades to see who qualifies. We will post lists of qualified students for commons and open campus as soon as the grades are released to us. Anyone qualifying for open campus who does not have a form on file will be given the opportunity to complete the form and turn it in. (Are you listening, Lily?) Those seniors qualifying for open campus with a permission form on file will not need to complete another form. ITED's, which will impact "D" term privileges as well as "A" term next year, will be coming soon, so prepare to do well, Central! 10-28
This announcement is for all students interested in National History Day--- come to a meeting on Tuesday, October 28th at 2:45 p.m. in Mr. Flaherty's room, room 515. We will brainstorm topics and begin planning the year. Also, if you are interested in going to the University of Iowa library on Thursday, November 13th, be sure to return your permission slips at the meeting. If you do not have a permission slip and would like one, see Mrs. Heninger in room 501. 10-28
If you are interested in playing in the Show Choir band this year, please visit Mr. Reese in the choir room to sign up. This year we are looking for Trumpets, Trombones, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bass Guitar, Drum Set, and Auxiliary Percussion. Rehearsals will begin in early November. This year the show choirs will perform in competition at Madison, Wisconsin....Davenport North.....Mt. Pleasant, Iowa......Minneapolis, Minnesota.....and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Show Choir band is the key ingredient in making our groups well known across the midwest. Come be a part of an extremely rewarding activity and a great group of students.
