  • Food Drive Classroom Competition: As part of the Food Drive, we collect food from the classes here at Central High School. The competition is between the third block classes. We are asking kids to bring in non-perishable food items to their classrooms. This will begin today October 16th and end Friday October 24th. The class with the most pounds of food will win a prize. This is a great help in the fight for hunger in our community and put pounds towards Central’s overall tally. Thank you for your previous participation in this event! 10-17
  • Congratulations to all 9th grade choir members who auditioned for the Opus Honor Choir. 3200 students in the state of Iowa auditioned for this honor, and the following students were chosen to represent Central High School at this year's Opus Honor Choir Festival in Ames on November 20: Michael Alexander Zach Hendershott David Mampre Tre Terrell Huge congratulations to these young men! 10-17
  • Have you ever seen American Idol or Do You Think You Can Dance? Ever thought you could be a contestant? Well here is your shot!! Come to the library after school on Friday to be the next Central Idol at 3pm. Step up!! Bring it on! See you on Friday!! 10-17
  • Newspaper students: Proofing for issue 3 will take place 4th block and immediately after school today. The Newspaper Lab will be open from 2-4 on Saturday and 2-4 on Sunday for any catch up of projects or string books before exams. 10-17
  • Attention ALL students…ALL students, each and everyone of you! Do you have a cell phone? Is it a razor a touch screen? Is it one that you can text message on? Do you have a plan through Sprint? ATT? Why are we asking? Well…we are seeing a lot of cell phones in the hallways lately and thought it would get your attention. This is a reminder that if any staff member sees your cell phone out from the time you walk into the building to the time you leave, it will be taken and you will not get it back until the end of the day from your dean. NO CELL PHONES ARE ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER SCHOOL. While we are on the subject of rules, students, backpacks are not allowed in school that are not string or mesh. Ladies that carry big purses, you will not be allowed to bring large handbags to school either. 10-17
  • Last Night the Lady D Cross Country Runners fought hard @ The MAC Conference meet in Clinton. Finishing 5th Place overall and earning First Team ALL CONFERENCE honors was Becca Wilder, followed closely behind her was Nicole Miller Rebecca Briesmoore. Also making her varsity debut for The season was Alexandra Baltimore. On the Fresh/Soph side turning in great performances were Maura Warner and Katherine Walton earning them selves Pink Ribbons, following them closely was Melissa Rink and Megan Severson. On the JV side turning in Great times were Brigit Ehlers Chelsea Rink and Kelsey Tope. With a lifetime PR for her Career was Megan Maller. There will be a short team meeting @ practice tonight for everyone. Great job ladies. 10-17
  • Last reminder, any students that park in the North Palmer Lot, please make sure you park on the north side of the lot. If not, you will be ticketed and towed. 10-17
  • Hey Seniors — time is ticking — you need to get your baby ads in to the yearbook soon. The deadline for submissions is fast approaching. Remind your parents and turn in your pictures and paperwork to the activities office. If you have lost your forms there are extras in the activities office or in the yearbook room — Kemper 12. Get those baby ads IN! 10/17
  • Spanish Club members: this week is the last week to order club t-shirts. If you ordered a shirt, but haven't paid, please bring $8 to Mrs. Trimble on or before Friday, Oct. 17. At this week's meeting we will be planning our Day of the Dead display, so bring your ideas and any items you would like to include in the display. 10-17
  • Attention Yearbook Staff – don’t forget Friday night’s work session to finish signature one. We will start at 2:45 and we plan to get done by 6:30 or 7:00. We will bring in supper so don’t worry about trying to work on an empty stomach. See Mrs. Jasper if you have questions. This work date is required. 10-17
  • Do want to save some dough — and who doesn’t? Then now is the time to purchase your 2008-2009 yearbooks. We have some awesome pictures of Homecoming and spirit week – what a loss if you don’t get a copy of the book to have those memories for years to come. So save some cash and enjoy those great memories by ordering your book now in the activities office now before the price goes up! Books are $60.00 for a limited time — so don’t delay and order your copy today! 10/17
  • Students you may pick up the Final Opt Out forms in the counselor’s office starting Thursday, October 16th morning through Friday, October 17th. You may not pick up a form on Monday. First, you must have all teachers sign the form that you are passing your classes. Second, you go back to the teachers that you want to opt out of the final and have them record your grade, your attendance, and sign it. Third, be sure your parents and you sign the form. Fourth, it must be turned in by the end of the school day on Monday, October 20th. No exception. 10-17
  • This year's musical, Guys and Dolls, will need stage crew members. If you are interested in being an important part of this all-school production, please see Ms. Buening in room 305. 10-17
  • HEY CHS FRIENDS AND FAMILY!! Do you have a family member or friend involved in this year’s production of “GUYS & DOLLS”? If so, wish them luck by purchasing a “Well-Wisher Ad” to be placed in the program for the show! Ads can be purchased in a variety of sizes: · Full Page: $20 · Half Page: $10 · Quarter Page: $5 You are the designer of your own ad! Please see Miss Wall in the choir room, Room 259, if you are interested in purchasing an ad! Ads will be accepted no later than Monday, Nov. 3, 2008. THE SOONER, THE BETTER! 10-17
  • If you are interested in playing in the Show Choir band this year, please visit Mr. Reese in the choir room to sign up. This year we are looking for Trumpets, Trombones, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bass Guitar, Drum Set, and Auxiliary Percussion. Rehearsals will begin in early November. This year the show choirs will perform in competition at Madison, Wisconsin....Davenport North.....Mt. Pleasant, Iowa......Minneapolis, Minnesota.....and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Show Choir band is the key ingredient in making our groups well known across the midwest. Come be a part of an extremely rewarding activity and a great group of students.
