COMMENTS Terrific meet! This was the first time in at least ten years that both Varsity and JV were champions at the same meet! What was most encouragingfrom a coaching perspectiveis that you won this meet with people competing in events that they wouldnt ordinarily do (e.g., Sahvanuh in the 800 medley), or not in events they usually do (e.g., no Sahvanuh in the 4x400). This means that people were stepping up all over the place! This bodes well for our team next year, when seven seniors graduate; but more immediately, it gives us the flexibility to create different line-ups at the Ladies Classic or MAC and still be very competitive! Before we get too satisfied with ourselves,
remember that we still have two solid weeks of hard training to go, and some
serious competition coming from Pleasant Valley, Clinton, and Burlington (along
with North Scott, North, Bettendorf, and Muscatine). Also, we ended the day
Cassie-less, due to a pair of injuries. Sometimes that is just bad luck,
like getting sick; but you should do everything in your
power to be injury-free! That means stretching thoroughly after every workout
(some of you just go through the motions), seeing the trainer when your coach
tells you to do so, lifting hard in the weightroom to maintain and improve your
strength, eating well, getting lots of sleep
Being an athlete is not just a
two-hour-a-day commitment. Lets be sure were at our best for championship
week! JV Shot Put
