H. John Hawkinson
Class of 1922
Inducted in 1990

    Through a career in the business world that led him into the presidency of Kemper Financial Services, Chicago’s largest investment management firm, John Hawkinson always found time to help others who were less fortunate.  He has served many charitable organizations in an executive capacity.

    Beyond the business world, he has served as: a Director of the Iowa Children’s Home Society, Chairman of the United Fund, a Chamber of Commerce Director and a trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa.  During these extensive involvements and while heading Kemper Financial Service, he has served as a director for ten major American companies.

    Mr. Hawkinson has been particularly proud of his affiliation with the University of Iowa in recent decades.  His efforts brought him the Iowa Distinguished Alumni Award in 1984.
