Climate and DisciplineThis section of
Equity Review Process addresses equity issues
related to climate in the school and the degree that
it reflects recognition, respect, and celebration of
the schools’ diversity and the diversity of the
world around it. Part of this section examines the
expectations for behavior and specifically students’
responses to diversity. Students will achieve at
higher levels if they perceive their learning
environment to be safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
The process requirements include:
- Discipline and Rules - The law
requires that rules be equitable for all
students and are applied consistently to all
groups.
Board Policy 504.01
- Harassment, Bullying, and Hazing (Second
Step Anti-bullying Program) - Due to hate
and bias related laws and crimes in Iowa, it is
important that discipline policies in student
and staff publications make it clear that
harassment of students because of sex,
disability, race, color, national origin,
religion, creed, sexual orientation, gender
identity, marital status, and socioeconomic
status will not be tolerated. Harassment Policy
